Turning grey – Can you believe it’s finally “On Trend”?

In 2006, I was President of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce.  Trust you me, it was a very stressful year working with a 140+ members, new branding, updating by-laws, helping with events, and running my own web business.

What happened after my one year term?  I went grey.  Yes, I did.  The stress caught up to me and the decision to dye my hair was ongoing.  In the 1990s, I started doing the highlight thing.  Years later, it was more of a “cover up the white hairs-thing.”  But, as any busy person does, they tend to put things off.  That’s what I did.  So, the greys were looking more and more dominant and I was getting into procrasination more and more.

The turning point.

At a chamber-related event, my father-in-law attended with my business partner/spouse.  He noticed my new greys and had a nice giggle about it.  However, my spouse said, “Wow, that actually looks really cool.”  Well, I started looking like “Rogue” from the X-men series and thought, “Lets go with it.”  When I started working with the hair professionals, they embrassed and called it, “Rockin’ Stacy London” from What Not to Wear.  I kept the grey hairs of honor and, strangely, keep getting great compliments about it.

Being in the web industry, people stereotype youth with knowing technology.  At this point of my life, folks gotta start embracing the older look for I.T.  Society better get used to it.  More and more of us grey-haired-babes are out there running stuff.  So get used to it.  As far as working on a new hair color, probably not for now.  At least I can always get a trim and keep the hair style industry in business.

Chanel’s NEW Hula Hoop Bag – For real

Chanel Hula Hoop Bag

Chanel Hula Hoop Bag

Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld debuted this new Hula Hoop bag in Paris, France.  Now, we love Chanel and Lagerfeld, but can’t really put our heart into this design.  On the runway, C-.  In real life usage, F.  Actually, it would look cool in any Art Museum way.  That would be about it.  See the photos.  You be the judge.

Designers are traditionally “out there” in runway creations, but this takes the cake in purses.  It has not hit stores quite yet.  This leaves folks wondering, “Will people really buy this?”  Well, if the Pet Rock was huge in the late 70s, then this new creation might have a shot.

Personally, we think Chanel and Lagerfeld stick with the formula that works: quilted, leather, chain handbags.  If Coco Chanel were alive today,  she may disagree with this choice of design.  Well, it’s okay to do a miss one-in-a-while.  Maybe next year Chanel will pull back and go to the 2.55 variations again.

Lululemon – Sportswear that ROCKS (makes a person look great too)

No Limits Tank

No Limits Tank

With the BMI rising in this country, it’s time we start taking care of ourselves by diet and exercise.  No wait, this is not a health blog.  There are many for that!  (You can check out Joe Decker’s Gut Check Fitness.  That will get you ripped!  BTW, Joe  is the world’s fittest man !  However, that’s another blog post).  This post is about Lululemon, a cool sportwear line that’s comfortable, performs well athletically, and, well, looks HOT!

As a runner, I have very slow finish times.  My fellow runners and I joke, “It’s all about the outfit.”  Well, there are not a lot to fashionably choose from until we saw Lululemon.   The line caters to women and men.  Yoga is the focus here, but they offer items for running and cycling as well.  We love the  ”No Limits Tank” the best at $64.00.  It’s got a great line to the straps and VERY forgiving to the pooch area.  Besides, women are getting a little tiresome of the “Sausage casing” look  of current workout attire.

The Groove Pant (Regular) …A.K.A. The Holy Grail of yoga pants. Period.  Yes, we know they are targeted for Yoga, but, during the dropping Fall temperatures of 50 degrees, these look fun at any 5K run.  Lululemon adds a fun (and WIDE) colorful band to enhance a flatter tummy.  And we all want a slimmer stomach, right?  They retail for $98.00

Let’s don’t forget the men out there.  Hey guys, you want to look great too!  They have the Commute Tee II for $74.00.  Yeah, yeah, it’s another top for guys, but it looks stylish with a little hint of plaid.  Who would of thought of faux tweed pattern as workout gear?  It’s made of the the Vitasea fabric making it breathable and comfy.  Ideal for biking, yoga or 18 holes of golf.  You can multitask with this shirt.

So, start getting in shape and look good in the process.

Valentino

Valentino: The Last EmperiorThis documentary is about one of fashion’s greatest designers, Valentino Garavani. Facing the possibility of retirement and selling part of his company, Valentino is juggling a business, design inspiration, and relationship with partner Giancarlo Giammetti. His work is wonderful and unique.  Not to mention the constant companionship of his five bulldogs, all these components encompass a person who has a great life of ambition, luxury and, most of all, respect.

What I found cool is that fact all his seamstresses do not use a sewing machine.  Not one.  It’s all sewn by hand. Giammetti mentioned that such a machine was bought, but sat and gathered dust.  The amount of skill required to make such couture masterpieces is tremendous.  One should only hope to even try on one of his beautiful garments.

Based in Italy, the culture there allows such history and creativity to co-exist.  It was really interesting to see the behind-the-scenes look to such an elegant man without all the ciaos and glitz that comes with today’s  younger designers.  Valentino teaches a great lesson to all, practice and love what you do and be honest.  He puts much passion into his work and respects his co-workers (which lacks in some industries today).

Generally, you learn more about Valentino not only as a designer, but as a respectful man and business person.  Valentino puts much heart into his work.  Something we should all do, regardless of our job and industry.

Beverly Hills 90210 Flashback: Andrea Zuckerman’s Guide to Style

Ah, the 90′s!

Did you miss the mom-jeans and blazers of the early 90′s? This article featured on Yahoo is funny. In honor of our favorite Beverly Hills 90210 drama, here’s a flashback of fashion yesteryear! For all you younguns out there, thank goodness you are NOT wearing these outfits today.  (Funny, I remember wearing business suits that short).

Our friends at Yahoo has a great gallery about this.

Would you buy a $2,350 Saffiano Computer Case by Prada??

Love Prada!  But, having been in the Web Development business for 12 years, a $2350 Saffiano Computer Case by Prada is so impractical.  Seriously?  In the article 6 Outrageous Tech Accessories That Don’t Need to Exist, they go over extravagant items to enhance and “hip-up” your tech thingy.

Why?

Makes no sense to us since technology changes every week seems like. Remember the cell phone case accessory? It keeps changing in form. So, buying any of these items, although cool at the moment, would be a waste within a week.

Besides, overspending on a $37,000 Flash Drive by La Maison Shawish is plain crazy. You can easily hit up staples for a nice 8gb flash drive for $9.99.

Save your money to buy a new car with a matching Prada purse.

These 2012 Fall Prada Shoe are AWESOME!!!!

Look, I ain’t no fooling.  I am just posting images from the Saks Fifth Avenue website.   When I saw these shoes…love it!  Anyway, they are only limiting the sale of some of them to three every 30 days.  Gotta see the PradaLeather Flower Mary Jane Platform Pumps.  Too cool and creative.  Thank Goodness I am a web diva.  I don’t see many financial planners wearing those, but they can.  Why not???  Check out the photos.  Words can not describe the cuticity of them.

Vintage Coach Purses

In an age of Reuse, Recycle, one more consider this in fashion too.  Coach has been around for many years, but had their stellar classics during the 70s through the 90s.  Where the signature C, Optic and/or Poppy grabs your fancy, you can always fall back on the classics!  Myself?  I own the Willis handbag.  It must weigh 3 lbs, but amazingly sturdy, soft and pretty.  It has been with Coach since 1993.  I also have the Coach’s Patricia’s Legacy.  The long adjustable strap and clean look is both professional and take me out for a drink bag.  Makes a wonderful mini diaper bag for you new moms out there too.  Plus, if the kid’s spill juice on it or smothers it with play dough, the purse can make a nice recovery with a little water on a damp cloth to wipe over. Really.

One must consider the Court bag and the Basic bag for an easy cross body bag.  They are just plain reliable and easy to throw in stuff in a hurry.  Although, it does not have the luxury of a wild inner lining to help find things, but you can not beat the soft leather feeling of the interior.  You just can’t.

Whether you buy one from ebay, a garage sale or new at coach.com, one will not go wrong with a classic Coach purse in their collection.  With so many other choices out there with animal prints, letters galore, or rhinestones up the ying-yang, the Coach Classic Collection is a no-brainer.
